AAG Research Trust scholarship announcement

The AAG Research Trust is pleased to announce that the scholarship to support attendance at the International Indigenous Dementia Research Network (IIDRN) Annual Conference in Honolulu in November 2023 has been awarded to Kylie Sullivan. Kylie works in the Aboriginal Ageing Team at Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA).

Kylie's presentation at IIDRN, 'Walking together', will describe how she works safely while undertaking research within Aboriginal communities. She will share some of her projects and explain the challenges she has experienced as an Aboriginal research assistant working in Community.

In her application, Kylie explained the sense of empowerment she would experience from attending IIDRN through networking, collaboration and enhancing her professional growth. We are delighted to support her and look forward to hearing about her experience.

We thank Professor Ray Mahoney, as head of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander review panel, for his contribution to the assessment process.

Tips for the transition into residential aged care

On Friday 22 September, AAG's Communications, Advocacy and Grants Manager Dr Meg Polacsek will present a webinar on strategies to support the transition into residential aged care.

Hosted by the Aged Care Industry Association (ACIA), this 60-minute session will consider mental health in older adults, the influence of transition experiences on health and wellbeing, and key elements of transition management. Meg will also offer examples and strategies to support the move into residential aged care.

Although the focus is on aged care, the concepts and key messages are relevant to our personal and professional roles, as we recognise and respond to transitions at home and at work.
